Environmental Sustainable Design

Project 1: Go Green  2013 International Short Film Contest

First project of ESD is to create a short film to enable us to be creative in raising awareness of contemporary environmental and social issues artistically. We were required to use an interesting issue or problem that has happened in this world. For example, global warming, animal extinction and so on. This project enhances our IT skill as well as our creativity skills. As for me, I chose water wastage awareness for my short film.

Objectives:
-to increase awareness of current environmental issues locally and globally
-to explore the local and global context of growth
-realizing the relationship between growth and its impact on the environment

Reflection:

I have achieved several positive outcomes from this project. First and foremost, I have realized how important water is in our daily life. I also realized how much we humans waste the precious thing that we desperately need in our life. Aside from that, I found out that there are plenty of ways to overcome this problem and people just need to be aware of the problem to fix it.

Project 2: Appreciating Environment- Nothing is Considered Wasted

For this project, we had to go for a site visit in a group of four.  We have chosen Ara Green construction site as out site visit. We were required to produce an artwork from the waste materials from that site as well as an analysis board about the LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) of waste material in construction site.

Objectives:
-to introduce basic awareness and environmental stress.
-to expose us to general construction material wastage
-to create the awareness relating environmental issues relating to construction issues, such as landfill, non-degradable waste, water pollution
-to create and understand the impact of non-reusing or recycling construction waste.
-demonstrate our understanding and knowledge of material life cycle and recycling

Reflection:

I have learned a lot from this project. First and foremost, i learnt how to explain innovative and creative method that can be adopted by reducing and recycling material. I also could recognise the responsibility of an architect towards environment and society. This was an interesting project as we were allowed to express our creativity to create an art work from construction waste. Basically, construction waste is important for us to recycle or reuse because it could really effect us now and also the future generation.
